You Are Worthy
One of the most memorable lines from the movie Tuck Everlasting is “don’t be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life”. When someone dies, I ask myself if that person was happy. Did they know how much they were loved? Did they live a good life? And when my aunt tragically passed away 2 years ago, the answer sadly was no.
My aunt was a good person; very quiet and delicate, but struggled with addiction throughout her life. One of the last times my brother and I saw her, we both admitted she resembled an angel; she was dressed in white and her hair was long and very blonde – she just had a certain glow about her. It still makes me sad that she couldn’t find the inner strength to overcome her demons and I only wish that she could have realized what a beautiful person she was. Growing up, she would always tell me how pretty I was and complimented me on my hair or outfit. She was great at lifting others up and seeing the beauty in them, just not in herself. When my parents divorced, my aunt was one of only two people who asked me how I was holding up – I will forever be grateful for her compassion. No matter how hard life gets, there is always someone out there who is willing to listen. There is always a rainbow after the storm. Your life is what you make of it. Remember that you are worthy of all the beauty and happiness this life has to offer.
