Positive Reinforcement

This weekend is Mother’s Day and in honor of my own mother, I thought I would share a quality of hers that has meant so much to me growing up; her positive reinforcement. I believe every little girl (or boy) should be told that they are beautiful, even if they are not. Throughout my “awkward stages”, my mom never hesitated to tell me how beautiful I was. She never put me or my siblings down. If we made her a drawing that looked like a bunch of scribbles, she’d tell us it was a masterpiece. If someone picked on us in school, she always knew the right words to comfort us. Not once has she ever discouraged or gave negative feedback, and for that I am truly thankful. That nurturing quality in a parental figure is what molds kids into confident individuals, who are accepting of others and who are not afraid to ask questions.
