Practice Speaking With Confidence

You can tell a lot about a person by the way they carry themselves, how firm their handshake is and how they speak. While you are having a conversation, feeling confident allows you the ability to succeed. The more you practice speaking with confidence, the more natural it will become to you.

    • Don’t have your head down, look at the person who you are having a conversation with. Remember to always “look up at the stars, not at your feet”.
    • Make sure your body is turned toward that person; your body language is an important indicator on whether or not you feel comfortable and are interested in the conversation.
    • Get out of the habit of speaking in a low tone – Nothing kills a conversation more then when the other person has to constantly ask, “What? I couldn’t hear what you said”.
    • Use proper English when you speak. Refrain from using slang words and the common “uh” or “um”. You will not only sound confident, but intelligent as well.
    • Plan out what you will say ahead of time. If you are going into a conversation you knew about, practice what you will say and rehearse so that you can familiarize yourself with what you will be saying. That way, you will feel more confident while you speak.
