Addiction

Do you have a family member or know of someone who struggles with an addiction? It is difficult for all parties involved, especially those close to that person. You wonder why the addict can’t just stop, because they are hurting themselves and the people around them. Until you come to terms that addiction is truly a disease, you will forever be angry towards that person. Familiarize yourself with the type of addiction so that way you will be able to help the addict, without enabling them. You want to lend emotional support and remind the person that a clean life is possible and that they are worthy of one.

It is not an easy road – recovery can take years. You might feel overwhelmed at times and want to give up on the person. In some instances walking away from the situation may be best, especially if it starts taking a toll on your emotional health or the person becomes violent – but other times, a strong support system is exactly what an addict needs to become clean again.
